It would be an understatement to say that 2020 didn’t exactly deliver in the expectations department, but if there’s one positive I can take away it’s that I had the time to fall back in love with reading. And I fell really fucking hard.

January kicked off slowly as I ventured into a relatively new genre for me—contemporary fiction—before veering wildly back to the comfort of crime in February after reading The Pisces by Melissa Broder. I can’t even begin to describe how weird that was. Come December I dug myself into a massive Rachel Abbott hole, finally completing the Tom Douglas series and finding comfort in the familiar plot lines as the festive season passed me by. It was a nice time.

Contemporary and Young Adult Fiction also found a real place in my heart this year, too. Good to balance all the murder out, I guess.

Standout reads have to be I Am Pilgrim (which took me about two months to get through but boy, am I glad I persevered), along with The Great Believers, which had me in tears more than once.

So here we have it, my top ten plus everything else.
